Hello, I am Angélica Figueroa
(she/her/ella)
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. I have practiced for 14 years. I am Latina, bilingual Spanish and English speaking, first-generation, Mexican American. I am a daughter to immigrant parents. I began my private practice, Raíces y Heart Therapy, because of the need for cultural humility and a trauma informed approach to therapy for historically and systemically excluded communities (BIPOC and LGBTQIA+). I have worked in outpatient community mental health centers, integrated medical health centers, and held leadership and management roles.
My Background
I received my foundational training for EMDR by The Institute for Creative Mindfulness (ICM). I am a Certified EMDR Therapist through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA), certified in Perinatal Mental Health, PMH-C by Postpartum Support International (PSI) and I am currently an EMDR Consultant-In-Training working with Jasmine Adams, LCSW, PMH-C. I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Spanish Literature as well as a Master of Social Work. As a member of the BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ communities, I understand the barriers our communities experience when seeking mental health services. It has been and continues to be my life’s goal to support folks in addressing the impact of oppressive systems on our mental health, culture, identity, family relationships, and parental roles.
